(CONCORD) – Today, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District recognized Assemblymember Timothy S. Grayson (D-Concord) for his leadership on policies that work to combat chronic air pollution.
“I am incredibly proud to have been recognized by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District for my work on strengthening air protection programs in our communities,” said Assemblymember Grayson. “In order to keep our air clean it is absolutely critical that we have an understanding of where pollution is originating and how our air quality is being impacted, which is why I fought to secure $100 million for community air monitoring in the state budget. I look forward to continuing working and partnering with the Air District to ensure the health and safety of our region.”
Earlier this year Assemblymember Grayson, along with Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, authored a letter advocating that appropriate funding be allocated from the state budget for community air monitoring programs. This letter was signed by more than 50 of their colleagues from both sides of the aisle and presented to Speaker Anthony Rendon.
“Assemblymember Garcia was a great partner in garnering awareness and support for these clean air programs,” Assemblymember Grayson continued. “I also want to extend my thanks to Speaker Rendon for his support of this budget ask and his continued leadership on environmental issues.”
In June Assemblymember Grayson was joined by a majority of his colleagues in passing SB 856, which secured $100 million for community air monitoring. Community air monitoring is an essential tool for addressing pollution and disparities in health and wellness across California.
Tim Grayson represents the 14th Assembly District that includes the communities of Benicia, Concord, Clayton, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Vallejo, Pittsburg and Walnut Creek. For more information please visit the Assemblymember’s website, www.assembly.ca.gov/a14.
