Legislature Approves State Budget that Includes Funding for Three Grayson Priorities

Thursday, June 14, 2018

(SACRAMENTO) – Today, Assemblymember Timothy S. Grayson (D-Concord) released the following statement regarding the passage of the 2018-19 State Budget:

“I’m pleased to join my Assembly colleagues in support of a balanced and on-time budget that reaffirms our commitment to fiscal responsibility while also making significant investments towards our future. This budget will greatly benefit the people of the 14th Assembly District and includes record funding levels for K-12 education, large increases for public universities, helps local governments fight homelessness, and provides more child care services for working families.

“I am also very pleased that three of the funding priorities I have been fighting for are included in this budget:

  • $1.74 Billion for the Budget Savings Account, a new account that compliments the constitutionally limited Rainy Day Fund and where we can set aside money during surpluses to protect against cuts to vital services Californians depend on during future economic downturns.

  • $10 Million for Family Justice Centers (FJC) across the state. These centers, including the Contra Costa County FJC in my district, provide vital support services to victims of interpersonal violence, such as domestic violence, human trafficking, child abuse, and elder abuse. This funding will help FJCs throughout California better meet casework loads and improve the delivery of key services that help survivors escape their abusers and have thriving, independent lives.

  • $2 Million to help protect our environment and fight against the spread of invasive species, like those that present a threat to the Delta and our regional and local park systems.

Finally, I want to thank the governor and legislative leadership for their tireless work over the last several months to produce a budget that keeps California on the right path.”
